An excellent reference on techniques of Russian massage
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 19 years ago
I purchased this book two years ago while attending a seminar given by Dr. Turchaninov. Weighing in at over 400 pages, it's not a brief or easy read, and is directed at the advanced student of massage, rather than the beginner. However, going through it, I found it to be a comprehensive, clearly written guide explaining several different medical massage techniques, and showing how they can be used effectively to treat a wide variety of muscle injuries and other disorders. In the two years since purchasing it, I've implemented several of Dr. Turchaninov's techniques into my massage practice. Specifically, I find myself using his connective tissue and lymph drainage techniques, and also his techniques for treatment of sciatica and joint sprains. Dr. Turchaninov takes the reader step by step through his many techniques, and the book is full of photos and illustrations to show you what he's talking about. Like I said, it's not an easy read, but if you're willing to take the time, it's brimming with useful information. Once you use his skills in your practice and see how effective they are, you'll find yourself reaching for this book again and again.
