Sunny Meerkat lives in the Kalahari desert with his family. Under the hot sun, Sunny and his brothers and sisters work together, play together, eat together, learn together, and sleep together. Sunny needs a break, so he decides to take a trip to visit some relatives. Through a series of postcards--that actually flip open for children to read--Sunny documents his journey for his family. But as he travels from the barnyard through the forest to the city, Sunny realizes there's no place like home.

If you liked the Jolly Postman, you (and your children) will enjoy Meerkat Mail! An upbeat story about a meerkat and his journey. The postcards are adorable! A great conversation starter about sending (and receiving)mail, too!
Great Book

Meerkats seem to be the animal du jour and they are fascinating creatures. Gravett has written and illustrated a wonderful book about them, both as a nice little story and as a piece of information. I like everything about it - the landscapes, the humor, the postcard concept (though I think it would have been even better if depiction of real stamps had been used, as I am a stamp collector) even the thickness of the paper. It is a real keeper and Gravett is truly a treasure in children's picture book genre.
Postcards and Letters from a Fun Friend

There are so many remakes of classic stories and this is one of the better ones. Growing up the jolly postman was one of my favourite books. Meerkat Mail is similar but a little more playful. A cute meerkat decides to go for an adventure and sends home letters to his parents that a fun to read and very sweet. The art work is beautiful as well.
