A must read

In this book Microsoft , takes you all the way from explaining the basic concepts of mail servers and move on to installing, upgrading, migrating and clustering of exchange servers and in a very detailed way with many pictures that helps you understand the product even if you didn't work with it before. Readers can notice easily the improvements in the MS books released for 2003 products over the ones released before for 2000/NT. Reading this book will help you for sure do the daily tasks of exchange administration, installing, upgrading, lists, aliases and much more, if you are considering this book for clustering and for advanced recovery techniques you will be disappointed. Worth reading.

A great place to start!

There were few books for Exchange 2003 on the market when I picked this book up, which I admit was mostly due to economy more than anything. I was taking a 3-day Exchange 2003 'boot camp' at the time, and found the information in just a fraction of this book for more informative than the class itself. This is actually the first computer book that I've felt compelled to read from cover to cover, it's that easy to understand. Anyone interested in a great all-around guide to Exchange would be hard-pressed to top this book.

Oustanding! Amazingly concise, comprehensive!

I'm an IT professional and have been reading the new crop of books on Exchange Server 2003. I have to admit, many of the books out there are disappointing but this WAS NOT one of them. I can not express how helpful this book was to me. I can not think of a chapter in this book that I did not learn something from. It was my first Stanek book and I have to say that I wish I found him earlier. This book was well done and worth every penny! Thank you William Stanek for an excellent book!I found more useful information in this book than any other on the subject. And anyone having trouble finding what they are looking for are unfamiliar with the "index" or they didn't even read this book. As an example, SSL which a previous reviewer says wasn't covered is discussed extensively; it is part of the core discussion on using Virtual Servers with Exchange and that is the subject of no less than two chapters. Similarly, MX records are discussed 4 different times as they relate to various Exchange features. And relay restrictions is covered in several areas and is also part of a 3 pages discussion on setting and using relay restrictions.I was amazed by how well this book gets across the gist of Exchange so effectively! I thought that the Mailbox Administration, Exchange Client, Mobile Access, and Store Administration coverage was really well done. The Message Transfer and Routing section really saved me too. The back up and recovery coverage, Virtual server, public folders and storage groups explanations were all concise and very comprehensive. A job well done!

This is one of the best books in my bookcase!

William Stanek has done an outstanding job with this book. "Exchange 2003 Administrator's Pocket Consultant" provides excellent coverage of Exchange essentials. The information is clear, well organized and focusd on what an administrator needs to know. Great book for Exchange 2003 administration - deserves more than 5 stars. This is like an Exchange 2003 bible for the task you do every day. I read it cover to cover, buy the book without hesitation.Great coverage on almost everything about Exchange 2003. Particuarly coverage of client configurations, wireless, web and dial-up access. Excellent coverage of directory services and data store administration. Good coverage of backup and recovery. Great coverage of message transfer, queuing, maintenance and monitoring. This is not designed as a study guide. But definitely can help you in that aspect, I'm using it as an additional resource.Jay SneiderMCT
