Microsoft's Hybrid Cloud: Extending the Enterprise Datacenter to Include Windows Azure in the Cloud

For the past two decades, organizations have been building out local area networks (LANs) and corporate datacenters, however with the proliferation of the "cloud", organizations now have the choice of leveraging cloud-based resources to host their systems and applications. While small businesses may be able to put "everything" up in the cloud, larger enterprises will likely remain in a hybrid model for a while, with some I.T. resources remaining on-premise, and other I.T. resources being situated in the cloud. Microsoft announced their "CloudOS" strategy where the Windows Server operating system they've had for years has been optimized to run both on-premise and in the cloud. Additionally, Microsoft now provides organizations the ability to "stretch" their on-premise datacenters to include cloud-based resources, and manage the cloud services as if they were a direct extension of the organization's internal network.
