Quilting by machine can often be a cumbersome task when the quilter is burdened with the immenseness of a big quilt. The problems are solved with a technique from Sharon Hultgren. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I have students that tell me they can't quilt. When I ask why, they say they don't have the big machine that does the quilting and they don't want to take the time to quilt by hand. Sharon Hultgren has given me the perfect answer to these students! And she has provided sixteen different quilts to satisfy any quilter's taste. Everyone has heard of Mile-A-Minute Afghans which are done in strips and then sewing together. Ms. Hultgren has done the same for quilting by working in 20" wide strips. This size will allow a home quilter to machine quilt without all the bulk of a completed quilt dragging the quilting process down. Simply create your quilt in 20" sections by making the top and then creating the "sandwich". Once you have the sandwich ready, take it to your machine and quilt the desired design. After completing the number of strips required to make the quilt size you want, sew the strips together. Ahh but you say what about the seams? This is another creative design Ms. Hultgren has thought of. By making "strip covers" which are sewn in place to cover these seams, she has added yet another design to the quilt. The strips can be part of the top or part of the backing. The details of the book include five pages of general directions, all the templates, materials list and cutting directions for each quilt as well as step-by-step directions to sew the top together. There are plenty of graphics to help guide you along and colored photos of what the quilt will look like when it is completed. I will be adding MILE-A-MINUTE QUILTS to my teaching schedule.

This is a great book for those quilters who want to complete their large quilts at home. The patterns are great and the process and assembly is well explained.
