An assured and imaginative new picture book

Because Pastuchiv refuses to look over the head of her young readers, the story retains a wonderful innocence. The above-ground pictures have a lovely, breeze-softened warmth; as the story dives underwater, the pages fill up with every variety of fish imaginable, exactly and imaginatively rendered from genuine species. It's Patuchiv's own wild rumpus, and it's a wonder. Don't overlook this one.

Minas is a Fish is a beautiful book that captures ones attention from the very cover with stunning illustrations. At the same time that the story is simple, it holds ones sus pense and makes you want to turn the page and see what comes next. The children I have read it to are spell bound at the underwater fish illustrations which keeps their interest. They are relieved to get to the end and see that Minas is all right. But then again, they want to just hold the book and look at the pictures. This book is a treasure.
