The Mind Controllers

When I was younger, I heard stories of oppressive regimes that dictated what could be seen, heard, and spoken of among their populaces. I always thought to myself that, while the people under such governments were not free citizens, they at least had the freedom to think whatever they wished. Yet, even that comforting assertion was shattered for me upon reading Dr. Victorian's Mind Controllers. His investigations, based primarily on declassified documents obtained using the U.S. Freedom of Information Act, reveal evidence that is both disturbing and fascinating. This book delves into the various attempts of intelligence agencies worldwide to master techniques of psychological manipulation of resistant individuals. Such techniques include the administration of psychoactive drugs; sensory deprivation; hypnotic suggestion; disorientation resulting from bombardment by radiation or electromagnetic pulse; and even the complete restructuring of cognitive processes and emotions through means of cranial implants. The history of a parapsychological cold war between the United States and the former Soviet Union is also discussed. Many experiments in the above areas of interest clearly violated ethical and legal guidelines in their use of unwilling test subjects. Mind Controllers displays many examples of how covert government agencies will often act in ways that are diametrically opposed to the principles of a democracy, unscrutinized and unchecked behind the veil of national security. Although it would be easy to construct a conspiracy theory with his documentary evidence, Armen Victorian refrains from wild speculation and simply presents the facts in a scholarly manner. This work serves as a chilling reference for all who are interested in psychological warfare and will hopefully elicit the interest and subsequent action of various human rights organizations. - Rob Marshall
