I am sitting here teaching myself Differential Equations out of the first edition of this book b/c I like math, and, except for a few shallow moments when they didn't explain something quite how I needed to see it in order to get it quicker, this is an excellent book. It has enough examples to get you going, ones that are generally equal or tougher to the exercises, which is a rarity in math books. One caveat, though: you will have to work at it. As I mentioned, it won't just give you the answer, but if you are adequately prepared in Calculus, this book should be good training with just the necessary pain to gain. Any book that tells you that you can be a dummy and get differential equations is lying. This book is a great compromise between the ones that think you can learn them in a weekend and the old, stodgy, pedantic types that would bore even Stephen Hawking...
