Moon’s guide to Zion & Bryce, along with many other nature sites, is chock full of information and useful details, maps and recommendations. The problem comes in reading or interpreting important sections. The font is very small but legible for the main text on white paper, but difficult to read in sections with colored portions, including maps. These segments use even smaller and thinner font, that are very difficult to read—even with glasses! The maps have the added disadvantage of making it difficult to distinguish some roads with trails, rivers and other geologic features. Even some of the larger roads are portrayed pale white with very faint borders. Many trails—typically depicted in red—appear to lack connections to them—as if one would have to access them by air or extensive undefined walking. There is no key to the maps, and the scales to the maps are so small, which adds to the difficulty of interpreting them. The book has so much information that it is useful nonetheless, but when I get serious about using it to identify sites for upcoming adventures I will need a good magnifying glass to actually plan them!
