While I regard Mort Kunstler among the very finest of this Nation's historical artists, I must withhold one star to register my discontent.Mr. Kunstler has indeed glorified the Civil War's Confederate viewpoint up, down and sideways. All the Union gets is this lone book? I do have Mr. Kunstler's framed print of 'War is Hell' hanging in my living room but could there not be more paintings of Union figures and battle perspectives to be done?I am aware of the glamour of the 'Lost Cause' and believe I've had to endure enough of it. Even his paintings from 'Gettysburg' were an ode to the brave Confederacy, while omitting most of the Union perspective. As I also live in the Southwest, is there a chance at all Mr. Kunstler would come out with a series of paintings about the Battles of Glorieta Pass and Valverde? It would show folks back East that there was a place where the Civil War touched in the Far West. This book is good but is a mere drop in the large, empty bucket that represents the Union in Art in the Civil War. Especially as pertains to current-day artists like Mr. Kunstler. Please try to give us more pictures from the Union side! They deserve to be recalled and honored as well!
