Book Overview

Mosby's 2015 Nursing Drug Reference makes it easy to find the latest and most vital information on the drugs you administer most frequently. More than 5,000 drugs are profiled and updated - including 20 new entries recently approved by the FDA. And no other drug handbook places a higher emphasis on patient safety. Designed in full-color and organized A-to-Z, this portable reference gives you the most complete information for each drug, including dosing, side effects, interactions, and administration. Updated by nursing pharmacology expert Linda Skidmore-Roth, Mosby's Nursing Drug Reference is a bestseller that has been relied upon by nurses for over 25 years.

More than 5,000 generic and trade-name drugs are profiled, covering almost every drug you will administer in practice or in clinicals. Attractive full-color design highlights important information for quick and easy access. Black Box Warnings provide alerts to dangerous or life-threatening adverse reactions. Safety Alert icon identifies situations that require special attention. Common and life-threatening side effects are organized by body system, showing signs to watch for during assessments. Nursing Process steps are used as the framework for organizing all nursing care information. Coverage of IV drug administration highlights dosage and IV administration instructions, including special considerations and Y-site, syringe, and additive compatibilities. Comprehensive drug monographs include generic names, Rx or OTC availability, pronunciations, U.S. and Canadian trade names, functional and chemical classification, controlled-substance schedule, do-not-confuse drugs, action, uses, unlabeled uses, dosages and routes, available forms, side effects, contraindications, precautions, pharmacokinetics, interactions (including drug/herb, drug/food and drug lab test), nursing considerations, and treatment of overdose. Complete pharmacokinetic information includes the mechanism and absorption of the drug as well as its action, duration, and excretion. Flexible, water-resistant cover provides durability in the clinical setting. A companion website includes updates with infrequently used or recently approved drugs, a full-color pill atlas, guidelines to safe handling of chemotherapeutic agents, combination products, drugs metabolized by known P450s, medications to be cautiously for geriatric patients, herbal products, a listing of high-alert Canadian medications and immunization schedules, patient teaching guides in English and Spanish, and more. 20 NEW monographs provide current content on added or newly released drugs.

Drug Reference for Nurse's

This drug reference book makes it easy to find the drugs you have questions about, look at drug-to-drug interactions, affected lab values etc... Mosby's Drug Reference is good for professional use in clinical environments or for the average person who wants to understand medications they or someone they love are taking. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that there are some medications available now that might not be in this edition. That doesn't matter too much if you are using commonly prescribed drugs or medications that have been around for awhile. I would highly recommend this product. Grady

Easy Set-Up and Find

This is the second time I have bought an edition of Mosby's Nursing Drug Reference books. Last one was 2006 edition. I find it easy to use, easy to read and easy to locate drug in question. I am a Medical Trauma Coder and would not be with out it. Would highly recommend this reference book: "Mosby's 2008 Nursing Drug Reference". M. Robinson

Great resource for nursing students

This book is highly recommended for both classroom and clinical work. I have found it to be helpful on many levels. The book reviews drugs as well as drug classes. Each entry outlines:Mechanism of actionUsesSide effects and adverse reactionsContraindicationsPharmacokeneticsInteractionsPossible nursing diagnosisNursing considerations (such as assessing, administering, teaching patient and family)In addition to the entries the appendix offeres a wealth of info including high alert drugs, formulas for dosage calcualation, FDA pregnancy categories, and much more. Of course, as with any drug book, you can expect some drugs to be missing as so many new drugs are introduced that it is hard to keep up. Nonetheless, Mosby's book is well written and easy to navigate.

Mosby's Nursing Drug Reference 2000

Hello! I am in my first year of nursing school, and we have to do drug cards that must include things like the trade name, generic name, action of drug, its uses, side effects, how to administer it, how to evalutate its effects, and what we need to teach our patients about the drug. Mosby's Nursing Drug Reference 2000 gives you exactly that, the information you need and in easy to read terms. This book also offers other drug interactions plus herbal med. interactions. This book has been a great help to me and an asset to my nursing career, it helps me to know not only what the drug is for, but why I am giving it and how it works. I recommend this to any nurse or student nurse.
