The book consists of extracts from the author's travel diaries to various central European countries: the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. It focuses on castles and ch teaux but also touches on towns, churches and restaurants. It does not pretend to be a modern Leigh Fermor or Pevsner. The author is a linguist and the work contains a number of linguistic jokes (some hidden). The word 'motoring' is slightly misleading: the author likes driving long distances but has no interest in cars and in fact cannot tell one from another.
