There is so much War News in News Bulletins, in Newspapers, and so much talk about the war that I do not intend to write about it in my diary. Indeed my diary is a sort of escape from the war . . .... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I am not quite finished with this novel, but I am enjoying more than I did the first in the series, Mrs. Tim Christie. In this second novel of the four book series, Mrs. Tim must carry on during the early years of WWII. The most entertaining writing comes when Mrs. Tim deals with annoying ladies of her aquaintance--other officers' wives who are petty, lazy, snobbish and who moan about the so-far small sacrifices the war demands of them. The young houseguest Pinkie is lively and charming and a welcome addition to the series. I hope she appears in the third and fourth books. The Mrs. Tim books are perfect brain candy/comfort literature for people who'd like an easy escape from the problems of their own lives.
