Umekichi is best boy.

Boy oh boy, let the bells sing! Wow, the action and suspense in this series have really upped in these past five volumes. (I review every fifth volume in a series.) A larger story/arc has taken a well defined shape and really drawn out character development, especially in Roji. It is really delightful to see him grow as a person and magic practitioner.
And while the story intensifies, new characters show their faces, making things all the more interesting bringing their unique personalities to the table. My favorite being Umekichi, an envoy (a summoned being from Hades that executioner's make contracts with and call upon to take down bad haunts/ghosts,) affiliated with an executioner that was introduced in this volume.
Also it was nice to cut some of the tension and keep the main story fresh with the bonus story, "Countdown to Death," at the end of this volume. It showcased Muhyo and Roji's talent for handling day-to-day hauntings.
