Return to New York Times bestselling author Anne Bishop's world of the Others--where supernatural entities and humans struggle to co-exist, and one woman has begun to change all the rules... After winning the trust of the Others residing in the Lakeside Courtyard, Meg Corbyn has had trouble figuring out what it means to live among them. As a human, Meg should be barely tolerated prey, but her abilities as a cassandra sangue make her something more. The appearance of two addictive drugs has sparked violence between the humans and the Others, resulting in the murder of both species in nearby cities. So when Meg has a dream about blood and black feathers in the snow, Simon Wolfgard--Lakeside's shape-shifting leader--wonders if their blood prophet dreamed of a past attack or a future threat. As the urge to speak prophecies strikes Meg more frequently, trouble finds its way inside the Courtyard. Now, the Others and the handful of humans residing there must work together to stop the man bent on reclaiming their blood prophet--and stop the danger that threatens to destroy them all.
Can you pick up this book without having to read the others? I think of the whole series, this book is probably the only book you could pick up without having to read the first. Yes, it does follow shortly after book one, but you get enough information of what happened previously to not get confused.
I really enjoyed this book, probably my favorite book out of the series. This book does a bit more world building, not to much to be confusing, but just enough to make you realize there's a lot more to this world. I think Meg, the main character, is the most likeable in this book compared to all the others. The mystery about her was solved in the last book and in this one works around her finally trying set up a life for herself and figure out where she fits. Meanwhile, the author is slowly setting up events that are leading to something. You get a mystery that does get resolved at the end, but also hints of something else coming for future books.
Meg and Simon are the main couple and they have a bit more time together, but as far as romance is concerned, there isn't really much.
I didn't buy this book from here. I had already bought it a long time ago.
