The title of this book is drawn from the hymn "This Is My Father's World" and is also inspired by Psalm 24:1 - "The earth is the Lord's and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it." Notice the apostrophe: Father's. Lord's. Possessive case. The earth is God's, not ours. We are its stewards. We manage the earth on behalf of the one who entrusts it to us. Ever increasing damage to the planet from climate change reminds how urgently we must respond to caring for God's creation. The hymns we sing about God's creation inspire the singers to love the earth because it is God's. Those who love the earth will care for the earth, advocate for the earth's health and future, and give of themselves in service to the One who entrusts to us the stewardship of our environment.
