A Most Fascinating Adventure

Take a trip to early 1600's Scotland via the mind of Lorrieann Russell. Meet William Fylbrigge, heir to the Duke of Stonehaven. Remember the difficult past that he has experienced through his flashbacks; and adventure along with the strong, capable man that he has become. While reading this novel, you will get to know each character intimately, as they are completely "fleshed out." Ms. Russell does not hesitate to describe each character's strong and weak points so that the reader feels that they are dealing with true flesh and blood people. No one is too good to be true, yet there are certain characters that will win your heart and stay in your mind forever. The descriptions in this novel will employ all of your senses. You will see the beauty of Drumoak, smell the horrors of a prison, taste Elinor's delicious recipes, hear the horses in hot pursuit of their masters' prey, feel the joy as William and Mehlyndia are reunited and prepare for their wedding; and truly experience pain, both emotional and physical, as you delve further into William's life. Be sure to set aside some time to take this journey with Ms. Russell because once you begin, you won't want it to end - even when you've reached the last page!

Better all the time

I read this last summer when it came out in the other edition, and I liked it then, so I decided to order one for a friend, and saw there is a new edition available. The story is still wonderful, with great action and believable characters. Lots of plot twists and turns. I've read it a couple times now, and even though I know the ultimate outcome, I still find things that surprise me.I highly recommend this issue as it is a bit bigger and easier on the eyes.

This book stole an entire weekend from me!

Because I couldn't put it down, and just sat in my recliner reading the whole weekend! First of all, I am a snob about details in historical fiction. (No one can stand to sit and watch Braveheart with me). So I am always ready to nit-pick. This is a great story. It is set in 1607 Scotland, but that is really secondary to the plot, so I have been forgiving about the invented rivers, and fictitious place names and such. It was the actual story that grabbed me. The story centers around one man, and his dream of a peaceful, unencumbered, simple life with his new bride. However, he is born of noble blood, and is saddled with all the responsibilities that go with it, and the treacheries. I loved the twists. Just when you think you've got a character figured out, he does something unexpected. Relationships are complicated, but very well defined, and the story just grabs you. Especially the last 3 chapters, which I read in one sitting, until 3:00am. It's a great read!

Good Stuff

This is a great story! My brothers keeper by Lorrieann Russell is a must read for anyone who loves adventure. There are many twists and turns to the plot, she makes you hate the bad guys and love the good guys. It is very well written, so that when reading it you see it so clearly in your mind it is like watching a play. When I reached the end of the book, I was sad that it was finished. William, the main character is quick whitted and stubborn. He will do anything to protect the people he loves, even though they may not do the same for him. His brother on the other hand is a sneaky evil man who you want dead by the second chapter!I strongly recomend this book to anyone who loves a good adventure, and has a couple of extra hours; because once you begin this book, you won't put it down!

On a par with John Jakes and beyond!

This is an incredible first novel by a wonderfully talented lady. The characters are vivid and real. The plot moves at a pace that is just right. The dialogue is "hearable." The historical perspectives are right on the money. I couldn't put it down, I was that captivated. Only one other author as captured me and made me love historical fiction like this one has, and that's John Jakes (North and South, The Kent Family Chronicles, Homeland). This book is on a par with his wonderful novels, and if he's looking for a successor to pass along the mantle to, here she is. Thank you, Lorrieann Russell. I look forward to more from this author.
