My Dutch diary is a light-hearted look at my view on life month by month. It's all the things you won't find in a guidebook partly because they are very ordinary in a day to day sort of way and partly because I live in a part of the country that isn't just ignored by guide books it's also avoided by a lot of the Dutch people too. In a way that's nice because although the old customs and old wives tales can be infuriating at times it is nice to live somewhere where the seasons still mean more than just a change in shop window displays. From the village fair in summer to the mud that cakes the roads in harvest time the seasons play a big role here. I also think that a country isn't just about language and geography it's about the food, and while I'm not a professional chef I do like to cook and I love to eat so I've included a taste of The Netherlands by including some of my favourite Dutch recipes in this book. Read, cook and enjoy...
