In this fascinating compendium, Alice Provensen creates an album that reveals the words and deeds of fellow Americans in elegant pictures brimming with lively detail. An eclectic sampling of Americans... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is a very good book that provides some very interesting tidbits and interesting drawings of famous Americans. I know many of the people and it was great to remember them and recall what they are famous for. That is what family albums are used for, to remember. As a teacher, I would use this book primarily when students are choosing a topic and a person to write about when they are required to write a report on a famous American. It can help after students are assigned a topic and need to familiarize themselves with the person. I liked the book.
Fantastic cliff notes for American historical figures

I first picked this book up in a Fifth Grade observation and it just struck me as unique. I have used this book for fifth grade social studies. Each page is like a mini-mural with many details that will go unnoticed by the casual reader. I even painted a mural for the classroom based on one of the paintings in the book. The text is simple enough for low readers but the content and scope of the book makes it intriguing for advanced readers as well. I think this book would be a great reference for those taking a A.P history test. I really admire the folk art inspiration for Provenson's art.
