This book takes you back in time to the forties, fifties, and sixties in southwestern Pennsylvania and follows a boy growing up on a farm and becoming a young man. The journey provides the reader with a memorable picture of what it was like growing up in a small rural community in a different era. The stories told are at various times humorous, entertaining, sad, exciting, and informative.
Along the way, the narrative dispels the myth that growing up on a farm is a dull and limiting experience. To the contrary, we see a rich life of learning about farm crops, plants, farm animals, wild animals, breeding prize-winning sheep, and the birds and the bees. Formal education began in a one-room school. Stories of hunting, fishing, and trapping are combined with the fun of swimming and ice skating on Ten Mile Creek.
These experiences and those associated with growing up in a rural environment provided numerous opportunities to accept challenges, be successful and have fun in the process. It is hoped that the reader will see how these early life experiences positively impacted the author's later life and career.
