It makes Eli cringe when her mother comes home proudly dressed in a foam rubber French fry suit after her first day as a mascot for Burgers n Fries. Families come in many forms in the animal kingdom,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Eli Smyth is a typical fifteen year old. That means she is argumentative, mixed up and completely embarrassed by her mother's every move. And Eli has a lot to be embarrassed about. Her mom works part time for a burger joint - dressing up as a five foot high carton of french fries. Ouch. Eli's mother doesn't even allow her to use real swear words - she has to replace the bullet at the end of every swear word with "a nice cozy z." Like fuzzed, azz, shiz. Eli's best friend Grace has no idea how lucky she is to have two dads - both of whom are impossibly cool. She can't possibly understand what Eli has to endure on a daily basis. Eli is building a friendship (and more?) with JG, a guy who has his own parent problems. Just when she thinks her life is going pretty good, her mom announces she is pregnant. How can Eli admit this to her friends? That her old-as-the-hills parents are still having sex? Not to mention her mom is trying to discuss sex with her?? Ew. This book is intended for ages 12 and up. Obviously there are some mature topics discussed and lots of faux swearing. But that's part of what makes it a cool book for the right age. A really great look at a typical, troubled relationship between a teen and her mom - one which many teens can easily relate to.
