"Girl germs," Billy Smythe sneered. It was a kindergarten taunt, just plain dumb, but his buddies snickered. Can Fran pull her game together before it's too late? Fran Cullers is having a horrible summer. She was a star player on the Little League team in her old town, so the Highwater Hardwares should be thrilled to have her-except that they hate girls. She can run rings around these guys, but they won't even give her a chance. So Fran sets out to destroy the Hardwares. But vengeance is a dangerous thing, as she soon finds out. Fran, who has already faced some terrible losses, is about to lose the most important thing in her life-unless her family and friends come to her aid when she needs them most.
My two girls loved that Fran was strong and smart. They both have had a belly full of the stereo types of girls and are relieved that there is a well written story that speaks to them. I enjoyed reading it, too! My family highly recommends this book.
Girl and Boy Baseball Book

This writer knows her baseball and fits it perfectly, seamlessly, into a story with a big heart. Fran's life has been turned upside down, but at least she's got baseball. Then even that doesn't seem to be working. A fast read with lots of substance to it. And just when things can't get much worse, they do. That's a sign of a truly good read.
Kickin' Boy Butt & Lovin' It!!!!!

Fran is so super cool! I mean she just totally kicked the baseball boys butts and they knew it. I wish I could be as good at baseball as she is to teach my brothers not to tease me about not being able to hit as far as them. I really liked how no matter how much the boys on the team were mean to her that she was sooooooooo strong, she stood up to them. And how much they needed her on the team. I was like, you go girl when (well, I shouldn't tell you too much). But for sure, I'd totally be her friend if she went to my school.
great book for pre-teen girls

I loved this book, and so did my 11-year-old daughter. I asked my daughter what she liked about it, and she said, "Fran is so cool, and what happened to her could really happen. I loved it!" My translation: the characters ring true to a kid this age, and Fran is a sympathetic heroine kids will root for.
