Tenma vs. Lunge, the rematch

Naoki Urasawa, Monster, vol. 6: The Secret Woods (ViZ, 1995) Tenma is still on Johan's trail, but it's time for the long-awaited (and final?) confrontation between Tenma and Lunge, which started at the end of book five. The depths of Lunge's obsession are finally revealed in all their glory. Later on, Eva--one of the few people who can independently attest to Johan's existence--tracks Tenma to the secluded home of a mob boss with a fondness for French chicken dishes. Unfortunately, it seems she may not be alone... the volume concludes with the beginnings of a story arc involving a Munich university, a blind rich old guy, and one of his readers, who may or may not be harboring a secret. Where's Tenma in all this last story? I've no clue, but I look forward to finding out in Book Seven. Urasawa wanders a bit plotwise, as he has throughout the series, but he's a consummate thriller writer, and every digression has a place sooner or later. *** ½

These book are fantastic! The plot is very complicated and there are lots of characters. I believe there are 16 volumes total, and they are being released about every other month. You almost have to reread the volume before to reacquaint yourself with some of the minor characters due to the lag time. Maybe your memory is better than mine. I', also reading the "Deathnote" series and I think Monster is vastly superior in story, dialogue, character development, and artwork.
