I recommend this book I used it along with the Exam Cram book the two complete each other. You might be able to pass with this book alone but why waste the 100 dollars if you don't. The goal of any test should be to pass on the first try. This book and the exam cram ISBN # 1-57610-192-4 will help you meet that goal. I recommend this book and give it the 5 star seal of approval. I passed this test on the first try with an 833 and I am a MCP. As with most of these study guides it helps to use more than one.

You only need three things to pass the Networking Essentials exam; This book, the Transcenders practice exams, and the desire to do it. With them you've got it made. I passed on my first try with no problem, and I had no previous networking experience at all. I read the Exam Cram TCP/IP and failed Transcenders exams miserably. I read this book and passed them first time. IF YOU CAN PASS THE TRANSCENDERS PRACTICE EXAMS YOU CAN PASS THE MICROSOFT EXAMS. Don't even bother breaking the seal on the enclosed CD. Get Transcenders for all the MCSE exams if you're serious about passing.

This is one book in this series that was recommended by three MCSE's in our department as the primary reference not for just passing the exam but to understand networking. I was relatively new to networking and this book was easy reading and explained the fundamentals exceptionally well. About six weeks of studying and practice exams was all it took for me to pass the exam on my first try. I was glad I listened to my coworkers and I sincerely appreciate the efforts of this author.
