While there are a number of neuro-ophthalmic texts written specifically for neuro-ophthalmologists, few resources exist to guide other clinicians in the initial evaluation of such patients. This book fills the gap; providing a simple, practical guide to the management of patients with disorders of the eye and brain, which can be used without previous neuro-ophthalmic expertise. The text is divided into four sections. The first section provides instruction on key components of the neuro-ophthalmic examination. The second section contains a chapter for each of the neuro-ophthalmic presenting symptoms and signs. In each chapter the reader is guided through the initial diagnostic steps with a series of clinical questions to be answered, based on the patient's history or examination. Responses to these questions lead to direct reference to the appropriate diagnosis-specific chapter in the third section of the book. In this third group of chapters the authors go into detail about the major categories of neuro-ophthalmic disorders, with suggestions for further management. The fourth section serves as a "how to do it" guide for the major diagnostic tests performed or ordered for neuro-ophthalmic patients, as well as a guide to handling neuro-ophthalmic emergencies and appropriate billing.
