The title of this collection implies more than the inability to provide a title: these are 'new' poems also in the sense that they take a different line from that pursued by the final section of Roy Fuller's previous two collections. Theses poems do not use the virtuosity with rhyme and traditional forms that for some time have been a feature of his style: there are no rhymed poems at all and many are in syllabic meters. Though this procedure leads to a greater freedom of rhythm and thought, it does not lack technical interest and control, and results in the book having a unity.
