In sketch and water color, artist Fabrice Moireau captures the dizzying heights, steep canyons and teeming multitudes of the Big Apple in New York Sketchbookthe fifth and biggest, brashest installment in our popular sketchbook series. New York Sketchbook takes readers from the citys famous landmarks to its hidden corners, including the elegant Upper East Side, the charming side streets of fabled Greenwich Village, and the turn-of-the-twentieth century commercial district around the Flatiron Building. From the spired Gotham of popular myththe skyscrapers and mansions, parks, bridges and museumsto the outer boroughs and northern Manhattan, this is a book for all lovers of New York, whether they come as tourists, weekend shoppers, workers, or students; whether theyve come to see it once or come to stay for good; whether they grew up in its neighborhoods or came to make it there.
This is a fabulous book with all the landmarks. It has all the memories of my trip.
Painting the town

On a recent visit to NYC I looked round a couple of bookshops for a sort of visual reminder book of the trip. Plenty to choose from and nearly all were photo books which looked like they had raided a photo library for dozens of ordinary stock shots. Fortunately it didn't take too to decide that the New York Sketchbook was the obvious choice. Fabrice Moireau's excellent watercolors seemed to sum up the city and Jerome Charyn writes some pretty succinct captions to the illustrations. What I liked about the book was the way its design made it look like a sketchbook. The landscape shape, thick matt paper, illustrations and the handwritten captions all contributed to the overall feel. Moireau's watercolors have just the right casual look though of course his style is very professional and competent. A very enjoyable book and just what I was looking for. ***FOR AN INSIDE LOOK click 'customer images' under the cover.
