I fell in love with New York many years ago and visited for the first time last summer. The photographer's capture of the architecture is outstanding, the accompanying quotes well worth remembering. So, until I return the pages of New York Vertical will keep the memory fresh. Thanks Horst.
New York at it's Most Elegant

As a photographer who also has captured images of NY in black and white, I can appreciate this most beautiful publication. The meticulously printed duotones should be the standard for all photography books. Congratulations to Horst. Your book has an honored place on my coffee table. And this new, smaller size, makes it much more practical and affordable with little loss of enjoyment from the larger edition.
One of the great photography works.

I received this book as a gift, and have since purchased 5 copies for friends and family. The author over the course of 5 years explores the city of New York using a unique panoramic format and ends up with really unbelievable perspectives of New York and wonderful prints for a book.
New York Realistic

Horst Hamann spent around five years photographing New York City with a 6 3/4" X 2 1/4" panaramic camera and published the results in this oddly shaped book. The pictures don't focus on one aspect of New York, as Bernice Abbot did, but rather gives us what seems to be a much more human view of NY. A lot of the images obey the rule of thirds while combining people, personality and pavement into one frame. A visually stimulating book that not only shows an origional way to photograph architecture, but also provides us with an insight into a view of New York through one photographers eyes. --SilverD
