Don't miss The Rise of the Guardians , soon to be a major motion picture in theaters November 2012. Before SANTA was SANTA, he was North, Nicholas St. North--a daredevil swordsman whose prowess with double scimitars was legendary. Like any swashbuckling young warrior, North seeks treasure and adventure, leading him to the fiercely guarded village of Santoff Claussen, said to be home to the greatest treasure in all the East, and to an even greater wizard, Ombric Shalazar. But when North arrives, legends of riches have given way to terrors of epic proportions North must decide whether to seek his fortune...or save the village. When our rebellious hero gets sucked into the chaos (literally), the fight becomes very personal. The Nightmare King and his evil Fearlings are ruling the night, owning the shadows, and sending waves of fear through all of Santoff Clausen. For North, this is a battle worth fighting...and, he's not alone. There are five other Guardians out there. He only has to find them in time.
A New Children's Series I'm very Excited to Begin as an Adult

So, I remember when the movie that's inspired by this series came out, and it took a few years, but I'm finally getting around to reading it. This first book was great--I did notice it was more fun to read out loud than read silently to myself, but it's also a children's book, so that's somewhat to be expected. It takes a little bit for the book to get going, but once it get's going it doesn't stop. I read the book all in one night, and plan on purchasing the rest of the series to read for myself and save for my children one day.
My main issue (it's not an issue for me, but it should be brought up) The book is a bit dark, so I really don't know what age to recommend this to. Parts of it feel targeted towards a children of about seven or eight, but then some of the parts are sort of scary and feel more like their meant for twelve years or so. I guess ten is a good age?
If you like this, you might like The Chronicle's of Narnia books or the Percy Jackson Series.

The story is awesome! I love the movie, Rise of the Guardians, that this series is based off the first book or maybe all, not sure.
My 6 & 7 yr old boys were excited to get to the next chapter & were THRILLED when E. Aster Bunnymund arrived today!
Super happy w the series so far. So glad I picked this one up as a Xmas gift for our boys!!!
It helped keep the magic of Santa Claus alive in one of my doubting little boys.
