Tomoko Kuroki naturally assumed she'd be popular when she got to high school...but then cold, hard reality swooped in for the attack Turns out all the popularity points she's racked up in her video game dating sims are worth squat in real life, and Tomoko's far from prepared to navigate high school How can she possibly hope to impress her classmates when she can't even talk to them? A new high-school heroine is born (maybe?)
As I had dealt with my own mental illness, similar to Tomokos depression, after I began reading this series. It spoke to me and I noticed a lot of her errors were mine at one point. This series is probably best for a teen girl, but by no means should it be slept on. Beneath the comedy lies a true piece of social commentary on mental illness, anxiety, depression, the dangers of social fears, introversion, disassociation and delusions. Really wish I had read this when I was younger. This is a great on-going story, not to be missed. Awesome main character you watch develop from socially awkward friendless teen without a care in the world to a great lead that mimics a lot of teens; wanting things, but being so enthralled with inactivity stemming from depression and anxiety, it curbs motivation. It is deep and stronger beneath its over the top comedy. You fall in love with the bumbling lead before you realize it.
