Clients have to be rich and famous to afford Private Resolver Emma Rhodes--but at $3.99, readers don't. For clients all it takes is $10,000 and two weeks for Emma to prove her worth. But when Emma thwarts the kidnapping of one of Belgium's royal family, she becomes the target of Middle Eastern zealots. And suddenly two weeks seems way too long.
I was very happy to see that this book, the first in the Emma Rhodes series, has been reprinted. Hopefully, the other 4 books in the series will also be reprinted. (Even better would be if Cynthia Smith wrote some more books featuring Emma Rhodes!!) I've read and enjoyed all 5 of the books, which are written in the first person. At first glance, the character of Emma Rhodes may come across as being a bit snobbish. Once you get used to her, however, she becomes more likeable and it is a lot of fun to live vicariously through her adventures. These books are well written, with endings that are not completely obvious yet still make sense. I've read each of them more than once and I highly recommend owning this series.
A silly, but fun mystery

Emma Rhodes, Private Resolver, hob-nobs with kings and queens and other aristocrats in this debut mystery. I enjoyed it, in spite of the 'brand name dropping' throughout. Say champagne, you don't have to refer to the brand! Oy! I definitely will read the follow up which I already have in my possession.
Enjoyable Escapism

Sure everyone would like to be like Emma Rhodes: beautiful, intelligent, well-connected. But we aren't. Though her character can wear a little thin because she is so nearly perfect, her world is fun to spy on. It is escapism, pure and simple and deftly done.
