Book Overview

Fans of classic frontier survival stories, as well as readers of dystopian literature, will enjoy this futuristic story where water is worth more than gold. New York Times bestselling author Michael Grant says Not a Drop to Drink is a debut "not to be missed." With evocative, spare language and incredible drama, danger, and romance, Mindy McGinnis depicts one girl's journey in a frontierlike world not so different from our own.

Teenage Lynn has been taught to defend her pond against every threat: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and most important, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty--or doesn't leave at all. Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. But when strangers appear, the mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won't stop until they get it. . . .

For more in this gritty world, join Lynn on an epic journey to find home in the companion novel, In a Handful of Dust.

Really enjoyed this post-apocalyptic survival story

I really enjoyed this. After loving Be Not Far from Me I was really excited to get started on Mindy McGinnis' backlog, and this first one did not disappoint! It has that similar thread of survival, and I really enjoyed the post-apocalyptic vibes. I switched back and forth on formats, and the audio was well done. Definitely recommend this one. I think if you enjoyed Dry by Neal Shusterman, The Book of the Unnamed Midwife, or in general post-apocalyptic or survival type stories where there are environmental factors and other humans are part of the enemy.

A Story of Survival with Powerful Character Development

This novel is difficult to put down once you have started reading it. The writing flows well and is written beautifully. The characters are relatable, despite the apocalyptic settings surrounding them, and they develop in believable ways. The plot is well-paced and intriguing, and driven by the self-reliant and proactive protagonist, Lynn. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys watching characters question their morals and grow, fans of survival works, or anyone who wishes to see a powerful female protagonist who remains so, despite the evolution of her personality, throughout the duration of the novel. This book is wonderful, and now occupies a prominent place on my book case.
