This is a wonderful little book that in all honesty will take you all of 10 minutes to read. But of course you will dip into it again and again. The author was apparently flicking through some Victoria girl's journals and found himself amused and fascinated by the illustrations. He felt he could discern another altogether different story there, and so has written his own story using the illustrations. It is completely irreverant, and extremely funny. So if you are looking for a tale of family trauma, poisoning and giant hamsters, look for this little gem of a book and start laughing. It is well worth it!
Creative and witty

I ran across this book while on vacation, picked it up, and put it down with regret. It weighed heavy on my mind that I hadn't gotten it, though. The next time I saw it, I immediately bought three--one for me, one for my mother, and one for my grandmother. It is off-beat and clever, two things that can be rare these days. I heartily recommend this book.
