Objective Raids is an indispensable resource for BattleTech and MechWarrior players, providing current listings of units and industries on worlds along the border of the Clan occupation zone. A... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I used to GM a group of 8 BattleTech players and picked this book up to assist me in putting together campaigns and scenarios. The book is useful in that it provides a very comprehensive list of planets, industries, and defending forces. Defenders listed include experience levels and what kind of Mechs' one might expect to encounter on planet. The industrial info is pretty handy. If I wanted I could have my old BT group to steal a new Mech' design from Alshain, or to steal schematics from Coventry, and I'd have a pretty good idea of what forces they'd face if they did so. A very thorough Inner Sphere map is included letting my group plot out a course for thier Jumpship. If the book has one drawback it's that it doesn't provide much detail (if any) of what kind of environment to expect on the various worlds. Indeed, this was half of the reason for my purchase of the book. I wanted my game sessions to be as accurate as possible and if I don't know what kind of climate to expect on a planet that forces me to assume it's standard Terran atmosphere, when in fact it could be an ice or desert world. Or a largely ocean world. There are a few scattered planet descriptions that provide a small glimpse into this but not nearly enough. This is a good BT resource book to have and a must for any GM's running their own groups through custom-made campaigns. If you can forgive the lack of climate details on the most planets you'll be appreciative of the numerous other details that have been put in the book to make up for it.
