This book rocks as a textbook

I purchased a class set of these books for my classroom. It is an excellent reference to teach my middle school kids about oil. Oil prices and how they affect our lives are important, and kids need to understand where oil comes from and why it is so important. This book does that. It also came with a poster and a clip art CD in every copy, so I can send those home with the kids. Great!

I didn't know a lot about the history of oil and gasoline. It seems in school, it didnt' arrive until J. D. Rockefeller decided to dig it up. Now I know that Babylonians actually used it to pave their roads and that using on their roofs, helped Carthage burn when the Romans invaded. Egyptians during the time of the Ptolomies even used it to help mumify their bodies which is where the name Mummy comes from - a place name in Persia where Oil is found in pools in the ground. Pretty neat stuff in this book and I'm an adult. A kid will love it. My students are crazy over the Eyewitness Books and they have already glanced at this one too.
