In this gripping and emotionally-charged thriller, New York Times bestselling author Heather Gudenkauf shows how all it takes is a single moment to change everything.
In the midst of a sudden spring snowstorm, a man armed with a gun walks into a school.
Officer Meg Barrett holds the responsibility of the children of Broken Branch in her hands. Will Thwaite stands by helplessly and wonders if he has failed his child again. Trapped in her classroom, Evelyn Oliver watches for an opportunity to rescue the children in her care. And thirteen-year-old Augie Baker will risk her own safety to protect her little brother.
As tension mounts with each passing minute, and as the people of Broken Branch race to uncover the identity of the stranger, small acts of fear and courage reveal hidden truths that will alter the town forever.

The story unfolds in a very unique way, and had a conclusion that I didn't see coming! Having worked in a school, I could relate to this. Highly recommended reading.

One Breath Away
By Heather Gudenkauf

Oh how I love to read Heather Gudenkauf's books. She is an amazing storyteller, writing stories that are so vivid and real that I get lost in her books and tune out the world around me.
ONE BREATH AWAY caught my attention from page 1 and is every parents worst nightmare. It had me holding my breath several times. There is plenty of action, and suspense in this book. This story was so well written and i loved all of the characters. They are all so likable. Well, except for the gunman.
On the last day before Spring break with a huge snow storm starting A gunman walks into a school in the very small town of Broken Branch. And Not everyone will survive.
The story is told from several different viewpoints.
* That of Meg Barrett (the police officer)
*Augie and PJ( Hollys kids )
*Will Thwait,(the grandpa of Augie and PJ
and the father of Holly )
* Holly ( Mom of Augie and PJ, who is in a Arizona hospital for severe burns after a fire
*Mrs. Oliver ( PJs teacher)
Most of the time i dont like books with so many different view points. But in this case it was perfect ! You have a chance to learn about what each character was feeling and thinking. I really enjoyed Gudenkauf's writing style, and short chapters. I did however guess a few chapters before it was revealed who the gunman was but not why he was holding a school full of kids and teachers hostage. This is a must read book! Fascinating, emotional, and a page turner that will have you up way into the night. I loved it !

This book is amazing! The author keeps you on edge from page one. It tells of every parents worst nightmare, your child is in danger and there is nothing you can do. I have read a few of Heather Gudenkauf's books and she never disappoints.
