Ken Cato is an Australian designer and thought leader with an international reputation. He is well known as a mentor to emerging leading designers, fostering talent and encouraging design excellence through the agldeas International Design Week, the world's largest annual student design conference, which attracts 4500 young designers and each year features more than 40 speakers from around the world. He is chair of Cato Brand Partners, established in Melbourne in 1970 and with partner offices in 20 cities across the globe. As a graphic designer, his work in over 100 countries has earned him acclaim and encompasses all facets of corporate identity and brand management. His work has won numerous international and Australian design awards, and is represented in museums and galleries throughout the world. He is a long-standing member of Alliance Graphique Internationale of which he was president from 1997 to 2000. To add to his list of honours, in 2013 he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for his services to the design community, adding to the Victorian Premier's Award for Design Leadership in 2006, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Executive Board of ICOGRADA in 2009, an Honorary Fellowship from Monash University in 2011, Honorary Doctorates from Swinburne University in 1995 and the University of the Sunshine Coast in 2016. Ken is also an acclaimed author of numerous major design publications, including four editions of First Choice, showcasing the best international design and emerging trends from around the globe.
