On Saturday night after dinner Mama still had plenty of chores to do. Mothers of all kinds, including bear Mamas like her, never manage to get all their work done. She was so busy scrub a dub scrubbing things she even washed Jack, but after that was her special time. "Ahhh," she said. Bubble baths were grand. "Mama loved Saturday evenings." Lily was next. She was a big girl bear now and could sit in the tub all by her lonesome. She made bubbles, played with her bath toys and made waves, BUT she needed help with some things. Mama had to wash and dry her off. Lily was all done and said, "I am big now. I like taking a bath all by myself." Rose was a splasher. She was a wild and crazy bear and even poured a "cup of water on Daisy's head." Of course Daisy went into a tizzy and yelled for Mama. Girls like that can exasperate mothers and Mama did ask, "Do you have to be so wild?" All the girls and Jack were clean as a whistle and it was time to play with Papa and later read a book. Everyone in the family had their own special things to do on Saturday night. Do you? This is an adorable, cuddly book. The art work is enchanting and the character of each bear shines through. Each one of the characters, Mama, Lily, Rose, Daisy, Jack and Papa book have their own little things they love doing on a Saturday night. This is one of those cuddle up bedtime books that can be read a chapter at a time (if you can get away with it). If you purchase a bear of choice and include this book you'll have a friend for life!

What a wonderful book! It give you a peek at some of the more progressive shools in opperation in the day of Dewey. Many would still be considerered quite progessive. Easy to understand and sprinkled with Dewey's insights into education, I would recomend it to anyone who teaches, or has ever been taught:) The ideas in this book are still very applicable today.
