You must read the book from the start to the end. Understand and practice well to get the knowledge the book likes to deliver. When you finish the book, you will feel, you know how to design and Adminstrate the Oracle databases. Practically you should work on the book examples as well as your own. Just reading will not help you. Well explained & systematically topic by topic structured book. Serious readers can go through it. You will not be disappointed.
Beginner's Source of Information - Oracle8 Bible

As a novice in using Oracle, I found this book to be most invaluable for clearing up the finishing details for Oracle database manipulation. I had no experience with Oracle8 and when asked to set up a server and workstation with Oracle then create a database and a front-end I was a little intimidated. I used "Oracle8 on Windows NT" by Lillian Hobbs to get it going, "The SQL Guide to ORACLE", by Rick F. van der Lans to get a feel for SQL commands and now "Oracle8 Bible" has become my reference of choice. It is very comprehensive (as far as this rookie can tell), the examples are clear and concise, and I look forward to trying out the ideas put forth regarding Oracle8 Object and Large Object Datatypes. Thanks Carol
Great book! Doesn't assume you know everything.

This book takes you step by step through the process and fills in the little but important details that Oracle published books assume you must already know. Written in an easy to understand manner. Complete command reference is alphabetized for easy access.
A must-have for new Oracle Developers and new DBAs!

This text is very well organized. I've used some of the "Oracle Press" text and they are very poorly structured. However, Oracle8 Bible did not cover anything on SQL*Loader. As a DBA/Developer myself, I do keep it as my number two text when it comes to SQL. I would recommend this book to new DBAs and Oracle developers. It's easy reading, easy to find want you're looking for and very complete. The OEM is presented in a user-friendly manner. Buy this one!
Well organized approach

I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that the book concentrated its attention on using the Oracle Enterprise Manager for DBA tasks. So many of the other books display a definite bias toward the "old ways" ... meaning SQL*Plus scripts and such. Which is fine (I've uesed this method for 8 years) ... but why not take advantage of the new way of doing things? Instead of rehashing Oracle 7 scripts to work with Oracle 8, I thought this was a fresh approach to Oracle 8 on its own grounds. Of course, the book also has its share of SQL*Plus scripts (for those who refuse to migrate to a GUI environment). The part I like best, however, is the organization. Too many times people who are technically competent have difficulty expressing their ideas in a written language. Too often, authors require that you make mental organizational notes before you understand what they're trying to say. This book is different. The organization is apparent ... and I liked that.
