Five years ago, a young witch named Cierra broke the one unforgivable law of the witch society: she attempted to create her own magic. Her unlawful tampering burnt down a research room and injured the Mayor's daughter, Cierra's best friend. As punishment, she was exiled to the Wilderness, a barren wasteland crawling with the witch-devouring Fairies and the bloodthirsty Forsaken. After surviving for five ruthless years, her exile has now ended, and she has been ushered back to civilization, only to discover that the world around her has changed dramatically.
Ages 10 and up ish [complex ideas/emotions, some not very graphic but existent violence] Pretty solid art, told the story well. The toning wasn't good in the first chapter but by the end it was definitely more good than bad. Writing was also pretty solid, but Orange Crows has it's own WORLD going on and because of that, all the ideas felt extremely crammed in. @_@ I LIKE the ideas, but there wasn't enough page space to investigate them all properly. Also of interest... it kind of amused me that the writer and artist, both guys, managed to write and draw some pretty good female characters. Cierra was a pretty good heroine, there was no point at which I cringed reading her. I would definitely be into a second volume of this.
