Over the years, as I worked in elementary schools, I taught poetry writing now and again - creating and gathering resources as I did so. The genesis of this book began while I was hospitalized and read City of One, a volume of poetry attributed to minors of various ages. As I read I began writing in response to some of their poems, as if they were prompts. Other poems came about as I reflected on what I read. I created portraits of the poets, crafted heartfelt responses and in a few cases, my memories came to the fore or I fell into mysticism - all adventures I enjoyed as I read along. I saved these poems in preparation for lessons, which I planned on mapping out and organizing for use "some day" in the classroom. After I retired however, I chose to create this book. I wanted to validate young unsung poets whoever or wherever they may be. I decided that the proceeds from this book would be given over to charitable organizations dedicated to helping homeless children in urban areas.
