A Keepsake of Our Times

Our family bought this book last night. It is written and illustrated with children in mind. There are only a few sentences per page with drawings as background. Each sentence has special highlighted words that stand out. These words portray the real feeling of the speech. They make Obama's speech more inspirational. The pictures enhance the meaning of the text. When I, an adult, listened to his inagural speech on the day that it happened, I missed quite a bit. Having it written down, where I can go at my own pace, lets me digest it better. My 8 year old needs to discuss some of the vocabulary words. With my 10 year old, there is a discussion of history that is mentioned on some of the pages. It is a light, beautifully illustrated, feel good book that goes great on my coffee table. Plus my 3rd grader is doing a book report on it. I will purchase one for my sister's family for Christmas.

Brings the Inauguration Speech to life

This speech worked much better for me in print than when I heard it at President Obama's actual delivery. I could study the words, get the impact of what he was saying, and enjoy the illustrations, all at the same time. I purchased it to provide background material for my project in writing a children's biogaphy of his childhood.

A bit of balance

So because you didn't read the description on the book you bought you give it 1 star? Seriously? I myself am quite fond of this, but then I suppose that's assumed.
