This book is an exegesis on Gal. 5:24 with regards to the believer's old nature (the flesh) being crucified and put to death in Christ. The Christian is not the old man improved, but a new man (or new creation) who is created after God's very own image and likeness according to Eph. 4:24. It is for freedom from sin that Christ has set the believer free. As new creatures in Christ who are no longer "of the flesh", we can now walk in this new-found freedom; we can now walk in the Spirit and in the power of His might.
