Most people know what it is like to experience extreme high or low spirits. For some individuals, however, violent mood swings can seriously disrupt their lives, either because they happen too frequently or because they are accompanied by other symptoms of depression or mania. Overcoming Mood Swings is a self-help manual for those who have experienced intense mood swings. It offers tried and tested techniques to help readers to identify and then manage their mood swings more effectively. It also provides background information on depression and mania. The volume includes an introduction to the origins and nature of sudden changes of emotion. It contains a complete self-help program, using clinically proven cognitive therapy methods, as well as work sheets to help readers to track their progress.
My therapist suggested this book for me and I am so glad I got it. It helps put things in perspective for me and realize where my mood swings are coming from. I would definately recommend this book to anyone who suffers from any type of mood disorder. Thank you for having it available to me!
It helps -?a lot

This is a sensible book based on cognitive behavioral therapy, the only form of therapy that will actually help people with serious manic depression take charge of their own condition and carry on leading normal lives. It has a lot of time-consuming exercises to do and charts to fill in, but they really do help. It might seem grim to have to monitor yourself for signs of over-excitement or incipient depression, but at least you are taking charge of your own life rather than waiting for doctors to do it for you (or to you). Not as good as having real CBT, but if you don't have access to that, I guarantee this will help you.
