In this comprehensive, beautifully illustrated guide, one of the great children's portraitists covers every aspect of painting and drawing children. He starts by showing how children's anatomy differs from that of adults and telling how to get to know the child. 59 black-and-white and 40 color illustrations.
The cover of this book is deceptive. The one I got had the portrait of an innocent child on the front. It said, "How to create children's portraits in pastel, watercolor, oil, charcoal, crayon, pen-and-ink, and pencil." I consider portraits as being the head and shoulders of a person... There are some well done portraits of children in the book. Unfortunately, to get to them you have to wade through pages of rough sketches of poorly clad or naked children. Who wants a painting with the focus on a little girl with with her knees widely spread apart????? I found it disturbing. I am throwing it away.
OUTSTANDING
