The overwhelming success of artists like Thomas Kinkade has demonstrated the public's demand for enchanting, realistic landscape painting. This book applies decorative painting's precise instruction... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Painting Realistic Landscapes has ten projects consisting of an old barn in a field, a stream with rocks and trees, cottage, lighthouse, country Christmas scene, mountain scene, old covered bridge, country church, rock mill and Victorian house. Most are painted on wood objects such as a bucket and different boxes using DecoArt Americana craft paints. I decided to paint the projects on thick acrylic or watercolor papers and stretched canvas. Each project has a pattern that you can copy and enlarge to whatever size you wish. Then you use graphite paper to transfer the pattern. Dorothy Dent uses craft paints for the projects. I used artist acrylic paints that I already had and some of the DecoArt craft paints for the colors I didn't have. There are step-by-step instructions for painting and lots of pictures all in color. I had a little trouble with mixing colors as sometimes I didn't feel I had the correct result. Overall I like the book because as a beginner it was fairly easy to follow and there were patterns to use if you don't draw. The step-by-step instructions are a plus.
