A gifted young writer makes his literary debut in this haunting and powerful novel about a gay black man grappling with his sins from the past -- and with the dream lover who turns out to be the lover from hell. Victims of domestic abuse know that the violence they suffer at the hands of loved ones is not limited by gender, culture, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status. Now, first-time author Lee Hayes takes this hot-button issue to gripping new levels in a novel that transcends all barriers of sex, class, and race. From the outside it looked like the perfect world; exclusive neighborhood, fancy cars, and wealth. If only they knew... Everything that looks good isn't good for you. From the outside, Kevin Davis' world leaves nothing to be desired. It is a life of luxury, comfort and money, but never judge a book by its cover. His pretend world hides the verbal, physical and sexual abuse he endures at the hands of his perfect man. Passion Marks finds Kevin entangled in a dark web of love, violence, depravity and torment at the hands of his lover, James Lancaster, the ambitious CEO of a rising Houston software firm. In order to free himself from the cycle of violence, Kevin must overcome his personal demons. In this psychological battle of wills, who will be the ultimate victor? Building to an unforgettable climax, and peopled by a cast of richly drawn characters -- including Kevin's best girlfriend, Danea, and the mercilessly driven James -- this is a powerhouse story of tough love from a supremely talented new author.
If you are looking for a good read with feelings of guilt, deception, mystery, and just plain out and out drama, then this is the novel for you. This book not only provides us with a constant roller coaster ride, it takes us into the world of domestic violence. This tale begins with an enraged James administering his usual act of domestic violence upon Kevin. James is literally on the verge of beating Kevin to death. Glass shattering, blood pouring from wounds, only to degrade Kevin further by forcing sex on him. Kevin's self esteem is so low that he thinks that he deserves it and then some more. Especially with Kevin's twin brother Keevan death hanging over Kevin's head. Lee Hayes takes his readers on a journey into the world of domestic violence and how it often starts from childhood and he weaves in guilty feelings as well. He makes his readers see that in the end there is only one you, and you have to have love and happiness in order to love your self. I highly recommend this book. The way Lee tells his story of Kevin and James is powerful, and the way he intertwines Kevin's friends lives in this tale is simply fascinating. Tony with his search of true love, Danea and her caring for Kevin in his time of need, and Daryl, who Kevin finally realizes that what he was looking for is right there all the time. Simply a great, powerful, and a down right good book. Can't wait for the movie!!!

I really enjoyed reading this book. James was a monster, I loved the way the author described every violent detail, I could feel Kevin's pain. If you don't like reading about homosexuals you will not like this book, however if your curious about them you'll find it exciting and entertaining. A must read! Good ending and full of surprises!

Great book Lee! It will open your eyes about abusive relationships and how they can and did happen to a male instead of a female in this heart wrenching story. This is a very emotional read and should be read by all! Can't hardly wait for your next book!

This contemporary novel digs deep into the other side of domestic violence. It is common to think of women being battered by men, but NEVER men battered by men. This taboo subject is confronted and played out in riveting real life scenarios from cover to cover. "Passion Marks" delves into a relationship that is MASKED, DARK, and OBSESSIVE. The reader will never be the same, and might even change their views on what was considered only for a few, now anyone's plight.
I finished in two days.

This was a very good book. It was very raw, Lee left no stones unturned and he wasn't shy about exploring the issues. That's what I liked about the book. It showed that male/male domestic violence is no different from male/female domestic violence. The cycle of violence does not discriminate.
