Back when I was planning to get high speed internet at my house I knew I needed to learn something about basic networking. I didn't want to pay $$ to have "experts" come set it up... plus more $$ for them to come fix things when something went wrong. I decided to get a book... I chose this book out of more than a dozen at a local bookstore due to simple descriptions in basic english, good pictures, and great organization. Even though this book is nearing 5 years old, it is still a great book on basic home networking regardless of what brand equipment you buy or what standard you use (N was in it's infancy when this book went to print). I still reach for this book from time to time for a little refresher on things I don't use regularly. This book could use an update as wireless standards are changing and "home networking" now can include equipment like bridges (not covered in this edition). However, if you need to understand basic home networking this book would still be on my short list of recommendations... I'd just shop around for the best price. PC Magazine, are you listening???
