Volume 2 far surpasses the first. It collaborates fiction and history in a brilliant execution. In this volume, we see a some of history of Yamanami and Hijikata, learn a bit of a new character's devious intentions, and recieve an amusing chapter dealing with haiku. The artwork is beautiful. It is detailed and enjoyable to look at. Akesato really shines here. Much more of her personality is revealed. The ending of this book shocked me, though it was well done. He took away the sense of reality. Other than that, this book is enjoyable. This second volume stands out. It shows Chrono's talent as an artist and historical-fiction writer. Buy it, and experience an above-average manga of the samurai genre.
