As a teacher and a doctoral student, I could not stop reading this book. The chapters by Cummins and Ada really stood out. Ada writes about mother tongue issues for Latinos and recalls a touching encounter with a Latina orphan who remembers only the way her mother sounded as she spoke Spanish. Even though she does not comprehened Spanish, the little girl insists that Ada tell stories in Spanish because Ada "sounds the way her mother did." Read this one if you are a bilingual educator or researcher!
